The leading social network Facebook has opened five vacancies for specialists who will work in the company’s own blockchain project, reports CoinDesk.

In particular, the Californian company is looking for a researcher and engineer for the data, as well as a manager of the blockchain team of specialists. In addition, Facebook is looking for two software engineers who “share a passion for solving complex problems and creating scalable platforms.”

On the job page, it is reported that the blockchain division was created as a startup within the company, the main purpose of which is to adapt the distributed registry technology for the social network.

The details of the project have not been disclosed at the moment, but it is known that the initiative is aimed at helping “billions of people get access to things that they don’t have at the moment”, as well as provide “fair financial services”. Among the options for using technology, Facebook calls “new ways to store and share information.”

Recall that in January Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that he was interested in studying cryptocurrency and encryption technologies with the aim of their possible integration into the world’s largest social network. In May, there was information that Facebook plans to launch its own cryptocurrency.

“I was told that payments were the way to use the blockchain, which they are currently studying,” said Alex Hit, a journalist for Cheddar.

Facebook Vice President, former PayPal President David Marcus was allegedly working on this direction.

At the same time, it became known that David Marcus, Vice President for Facebook Messenger Development, will develop and implement blockchain solutions within the company.

“I’m putting together a small group that will look for the best way to implement the blockchain on Facebook. We will start development from scratch,” Marcus announced.

In July, the head of the engineering division of Facebook, Evan Cheng, took the position of director of blockchain engineering.
