As the annual Proof of Keys event is just a couple of hours away, the recent developments involving HitBTC have raised many eyebrows in the crypto community.
The Proof of Keys is an annual event taking place on January 3rd, where cryptocurrency holders are urged to remove their assets from exchanges in an effort to prove solvency. The idea is to prove that you have exercise control over your assets at any point.
The event is initiated by Trace Meyer and supported by such crypto influencers as Nick Szabo and Caitlin Long.
Following the latest developments with HitBTC, the exchange was heavily criticized by John McAfee, a businessman, and vocal crypto advocate, on Twitter.
I warned everyonw more than a dozen times. Don't sign up. Don't use it. Withdtaw your funds. I was trashed for calling out HitBT as a corrupt cimpany. Tough shit. You had six months warning from me to withdraw your funds. Do not ask me to help you now.https://t.co/Ls9mzpUSbz

Previously, McAfee spoke against fraudulent exchanges. For instance, he specifically mentioned Hitbtc, which,
“has increased suffering for millions of poor people who cannot afford the minimum buy-in since it is greater than their monthly income. Boycott them”.
As of press time, HitBTC hasn’t officially responded to above-mentioned accusations.
HitBTC is the eight biggest crypto exchange in the world based on the adjusted reported volume, according to Coinmarketcap.Leave a comment
