Ethereum Developers Have Published Documentation for the Casper Solution

Four Ethereum developers, including Vlad Zamfir, have published a draft version (v1.0) of the technical document for the Casper solution.

According to Zamfir, the document contains a more detailed description of the new technological solution, which complements the already well-known information about Casper.

This protocol, first introduced in 2015, involves the transition of Ethereum to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. Vlad Zamfir’s version of Casper is called Correct by Construction Casper (CBC). Its initial version was published in November 2017.

In October last year, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin presented a different version of the protocol – Casper the Friendly Finality Gadget (FFG). It involves the use of a hybrid consensus mechanism that combines both the current Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake. The first release of the FFG code was published on GitHub in May of this year.

The launch of Casper is planned after the update of Constantinople, scheduled for early 2019.

Recall, Vitalik Buterin recently announced the transition of the ecosystem to the Ethereum 2.0 stage, which will be called Serenity.

A large-scale upgrade will be preceded by Casper activation and transition to the Proof-of-Stake algorithm, sharding, virtual machine updates, and changes in cross-contract logic and protocol economics. Buterin also expects that as a result, the Ethereum network will become faster, safer and less energy-intensive. The bandwidth, he said, will exceed 1000 transactions per second.
